Brown Sugar Suite Presents: Live in Concert, PJ Morton at House of Blues, Dallas, TX
PJ Morton is a Grammy, Dove & Stellar-Award winning writer and producer who has written and produced songs for India.Arie, Musiq Soulchild, Monica, Ruben Studdard, Trin-i-tee 5:7 and many more. He also worked with composer AR Rahman (most notably known for his work on Slumdog Millionaire) and is featured on the “Couples Retreat” soundtrack with him.
On his fifth independently released album entitled Walk Alone, PJ shared his heart, experiences and stories with the masses. Walk Alone was a deeply personal album entirely written, produced and performed by PJ. The highly anticipated concept album symbolized the breadth of PJ’s self-expression as well as his creative choices with music beyond the confines of labels. “In the state of the world I feel alone because of the way I choose to do music with true instrumentation. Creating stories and lyrics with meaning feels like a minority not a majority.”

Shots of the amazing Luke James from the Lexus Listening Lounge in the Design District of Dallas, Texas…
He’s a singer/songwriter who truly embodies the honesty and fresh, organic soulfulness that’s been in relatively short supply of late in contemporary music. Now that sounds like a pretty tall order for a newcomer to fulfill. However, the New Orleans native is very much up to the task. In fact, you’ve no doubt heard his work: he co-wrote Chris Brown’s “Crawl” and has penned songs for Justin Bieber (“That Should Be Me”) and Britney Spears (“Kill The Lights”), among others. And his growing fan base includes none other than Beyoncé, who selected James to appear in her “Run the World” video.

Shoot YahZarah Purple St. James…
I had the honor and the pleasure of shooting with Neo/Organic-Soul Artist, YAHZARAH . A major accomplishment that came at the most unexpected time. Yah was in town for Frances Jaye’s Birthday Celebration by way of “Fusion”, with a roster including the vocal sensation Choklate of Seattle, WA, and Toronto’s own Slakah the BeatChild; Singer, Songwriter, Producer and MC. She was definitely on my list of people to work with, but I did not expect for it to come so soon. She is an amazing artist, and a force of positive energy; I look forward to working with her in the future. I would also love to shout out the amazing Bridgett Washington and GlamourRX for the Make Up and Styling.
YahZarah, a singer-songwriter who first made her mark as a background singer for Erykah Badu, has spent the past few years touring in support of her albums “Hear Me” (2001), A follow up LP, 2003’s “Blackstar,” was issued on the Three Keys label and reached #44 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. Followed by 2008’s “The Prelude.” She worked on “The Ballad…” independently for a number of years before reaching out to Phonte (a longtime friend and fellow NC Central music student), and finally selecting +FE Music as her label home.

So I decided to make my first post of 2012 my FIRST shoot of 2012 with Jmil Kly aka Buffalo Black; Hip Hop artist, writer, producer, and philosopher. At some point we will continue with Part II as a night shoot.
Jamil Kelley (Jmil Kly) represents a new breed of Artistry out of Dallas, Texas. Born on May 2, ‘88, he was raised in Dallas with the perspective of an observer carrying an ambitious spirit. He is the product of a single parent household and has two siblings. He is currently a Philosophy and Film student at the University of North Texas. Music became an important asset in his life early in the year of 2009 after the advice of many friends. He began rapping and writing lyrics for his debut mixtape, “Flomogenic”, later released in May of 2010. After the moderate success that followed from local critics and peers, he began preparing for his debut EP, “NEOTokyo”, which carried apocalyptic themes and concepts derived from Anime Films such as, “Akira”. Afterwards, a creative void discovered within compelled him to develop his next EP, “The Boy King”. Which inherited new sounds influenced by several artists such as Hans Zimmer, Alpha, Brian Eno, Kanye West and Flying Lotus. He plans on building off of the release to further his career and influence others as he himself was influenced.
